Glamour Doll Eyes!!!!
I had the opportunity to speak with Glamour Doll owner Vee and she was nice enough to answer some questions for us! First, let me say that GDE's shadows are some of the most pigmented mineral shadows you will come across. A huge majority of the shadows are purely vegan, putting them in the forefront of most things mineral based! They only have eye shadows and lipglosses and according to Vee, they aren't planning on expanding beyond that :D

But enough of my chatter! On to the interview!!!

When did your general interest in makeup start?

I actually haven’t been into make up very long. I didn’t really have anyone in my life to teach me the ins and outs of make up so it was never really something that I dabbled in. When I was younger (I’m talking grade school age) I wore powder on my face because that was the cool thing to do but in my later teen years I started wearing eye shadow and stuff. I found the beauty community one day on YT and it sparked my interest. I thought it was fascinating that people actually did videos for YouTube and that began my obsession.

Why Did you want to start your own company?

Lets face it, make up is expensive and it seems as though girls will spend anything on make up. I was not that kind of girl. I did a lot of research on how to make your own shadows because I wanted to make my own instead of buying online, which at the time was pretty much all the resources that I had.

And the name of your company is Glamour Doll Eyes, what inspired the name?

The name came from an image idea that the company would go by. I was thinking of a pale skinned girl with porcelain skin (doll) with bright pink cheeks and amazing make up (glamour) and it just came from there. I never really imagined going into other areas (lips, face, etc) so I just added Eyes to it.

What is the mission of G.D.E.?

I want to offer affordable, fun, bright and even neutral colors to any age, skin type, ethnicity and gender.

From the start, did you think it would be this huge of a success?

I wouldn’t say that I have a huge success as of now. I have a loyal following and I have worked hard to get where I am but I never imagined that it would stick like it has. The beauty community is growing everyday and there are tons of possibilities.

The color selection is absoutely ridiculous! How do you go about coming up with a color, making it a physical thing, then naming it?

I don’t consider myself a creative person so it is not like I sit down thinking “I want to make a purple with blue sparkle”. Most of the time, I throw a bunch of colors together and if it turns out gorgeous then it will become a color. Some of my most unique colors happened that way. Sometimes I will go by what customers want or I have a notebook that I write down ideas in, but most of the time its an “accident” if you can call it that.

What seems to be your best seller(s) as of late?

The super shadows are huge right now since they are new. Those are colors inspired by super heroes and villains (in collaboration with a youtube guru). Individual shadows, I would say Tattooed, Electric Lemonade and Trophy Wife.

Glamour Doll Eyes selection is very vast, the customers are just as such. Do you see the company expanding to include more things?

I am working on a primer right now as well as a few special edition collections with some youtube gurus and my gloss girl is working on a liquid lipstick type deal. I am sure it will expand at some point but usually my ideas come to me over night and I make them happen.

What is your advice to that lone person with hopes of opening their own mineral makeup company?

Research, research, research. It is NOT easy but its fun. You’re not going to wake up one morning and everyone wants your goods. It takes a lot of practice, a lot of advertising and a lot of time. Stick with what your goal is.

Why, in your own words, is mineral makeup a better choice than mass produced products?

A lot of my customers appreciate the smaller businesses because you recognize their names. You can’t go to MAC and people remember your name (for the most part). I interact with my customers, I personally email them back, I package all my orders myself so they know that love and care went into them.

What would be your advice to someone who's never purchased mineral makeup before?

Start small, get samples. I know quite a few people who just can’t use loose shadows so if you start with something small and it doesn’t work out for you, you’re not out a lot of money. Also, practice and watch tutorials on youtube. There are many out there that will help you achieve the look you’re going for!

Where can your products be purchased and where can they find you on the web (social networking sites for your business)?

You can buy shadows at glamourdolleyes.com. We also have a facebook (this is where I promote the most http://facebook.com/glamourdolleyes), a twitter (which I have a girl who does all the tweeting for me, but she knows almost everything about the company and the colors so she is a huge help http://twitter.com/glamourdolleyes) and then I have a youtube as well (which is just me posting videos about whatever I feel like  http://youtube.com/glamourdolleyes)

Any last words?

I always tell my customers “You can only pull off what you feel comfortable pulling off”. Be bold, you’re the only one that needs to feel comfortable in your make up :D"

I want to Thank the lovely Vee for her time and her patience and her drive! Please, check out her website, sign up for an account, sign up for the newsletter, and buy a pigment or three. You will NOT be disappointed :). This is WyckidMUA signing off for now. Next week, I have some swatches from Korpse Kosmetics :D Be on the lookout for that. Until then. Toodle Loo!
